Work History
eBay trader in musical instruments
While studying various IT courses I have bought and sold various rare acoustic and electronic instruments through eBay.
Self-employed woodworker.
I have been involved with different types of woodworking which recently has been house renovation. As a result of working for myself I have gained business skills and can interact with professionals and customers.
English language teacher.
I worked in Bristol teaching students for who English was not their first language. I enjoyed working with people from different countries, different careers and ages. Oxford Intensive specialised in teaching air traffic controllers, while Bristol Language Centre catered for a wide variety of students.
Music producer.
After becoming familiar with the technologies involved in music production, I started two record companies in order to release music that I and colleagues had made. I enjoyed the combination of arts and business, but ultimately outgoings exceeded income and they were closed down. Great fun but ultimately financially ruinous.
Sound studio design and build.
After qualifying in programming COBOL and BASIC in 1993, I worked restoring the Underfall Yard in Bristol harbourside. Then a contact was made with Christchurch studios, Clifton in around 1994 as it became clear to my employers that my skills could be used to build sound studios, which I continued with for most of the nineties. I enjoyed the environment and perhaps because I play the piano and guitar I was able to interact well with musicians.
